Welcome to the Refugee Union’s monthly update! This month we have been working as usual to empower the refugee community in Hong Kong.
About Us
Our centre was founded in 2014 by a group of refugees and asylum seekers in Hong Kong. We are dedicated to empowering the refugee community by safeguarding their rights and improving their wellbeing.
Activities at a Glance
On 26 October, we welcomed a group of students from the Chinese International School who visited our centre and taught our kids financial literacy. It is important to equip children with fundamental knowledge in personal finance from a young age. Thank you so much for this meaningful initiative.
On the same day, we joined the Hollywood Halloween event in Sheung Wan to celebrate Halloween. We would like to thank the organisers for the invitation and for supporting the asylum-seeking community.
On 29 October, we were honoured to attend the high table dinner at R. C. Lee Hall of the University of Hong Kong. Our leaders, Halimah and Shirley, represented us and shared with over 300 HKU students their experiences as asylum seekers and how our centre provides support for them. Thank you for the invitation.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank students from the Hong Kong International School and the Canadian International School of Hong Kong who visit our centre regularly and organise classes that teach our kids homework and creative work.
This month, we received a wide range of useful item donations. We would like to express our gratitude to those who have lent a helping hand. Your support means a lot to us. We welcome large donations which are allocated to distribute to many refugee families who do not receive sufficient government assistance.
