Welcome to the Refugee Union’s monthly roundup!

The Refugee Union was founded in 2014 by a group of asylum seekers in Hong Kong. We are a union of asylum seekers dedicated to empowering the refugee community by safeguarding their rights and improving their wellbeing.

Activities at a Glance

On 16 December, we were delighted to host Ms Anna Tsui, an MPhil student in Sociology at the University of Hong Kong. Anna studies the use and impacts of immigration detention. During her visit, she kindly shared information about detention and the rights of detainees with our members. We were pleased to have welcomed Anna and look forward to collaborating with her on her future research projects.

On 18 December, we were honoured to host Prof Esther Chan and her two daughters. Prof Chan is a Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy at the University of Hong Kong. She is also the Warden of R. C. Lee Hall, HKU. Last month, they invited our representatives to their High Table Dinner, where we served as guest speakers to share the experiences of asylum seekers in Hong Kong with fellow residential students. We were thrilled to welcome Prof Chan back to visit us again.

During this festive season, we launched a fundraiser. We hope you will kindly support us and help our families to enjoy this holiday season. Thank you very much!

This month, we received a wide range of useful item donations. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has lent a helping hand. Your support means so much to us. We continue to welcome large donations, which are distributed to many refugee families who do not receive sufficient government assistance.
